Description
Precipitation reaction. Iron (III) hydroxide (brown) being precipitated from a solution by the addition of sodium hydroxide from a dropper (top). Precipitation occurs when an insoluble salt is formed by a reaction. In this case, a solution of iron (III) chloride (FeCl3, yellow) reacts with the sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to form insoluble iron (III) hydroxide (Fe(OH)3) and soluble sodium chloride, or table salt (NaCl).
