This is my first purchase from Fine Art America. I had an idea in my mind of what I wanted to hang in our newly renovated master bathroom wall. I searched all over the internet and then came upon Fine Art America online. It took months of searching but when I came upon Carol Robinson's collection I liked her style and soft, airy prints. This abstract piece was made using encaustic wax. Encaustic is an ancient technique which has had a rebirth of interest in both the artist and collector world. It is amazingly resilient and can actually be polished with a soft cloth to add dimension and movement with the sheen. I am pleased to add this to my series on Unreal.
About Cathy Minerva
After a successful career writing pre-school curriculum, I have retired from the "real world" to pursue my lifelong dream of creating and selling art. I create in many mediums but my true passions are encaustics (molten wax) and water color pencil portraits. I also work in clay, acrylics, water colors, fabric and re-purposing items that would normally end up in our landfills. As a child, I won numerous art contests and thought I would go immediately into the art world when I grew up. Reality of the literal term starving artist set in quickly so I found a career and worked until I retired almost 3 yrs. ago. I have a fascination with texture, faces and eyes in particular.
