My husband and I had a lovely trip to Paris and southern France last July. While on a bus trip we were able to take a photo of this cafe that we share a name with. Our photo was a little blurry and not good for enlargement. Your wonderful photo now hangs in our own kitchen as a nice reminder of that trip. It is beautiful and of very good quality. We love it. Thank you Mary Flore

Beautiful picture. Grew up on northshore so wanted something from there. Metal picture really shows the colors and picture quality is very clear.

This is one of three pieces that I am adding to my collection. Once I have received the other two pieces I will be happy to provide a photograph of the display. The quality of the art piece is exceptional. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase even more pieces!

Artist's Description
The Russian designer and painter Leon Bakst (1866-1924), born Lev Samuilovich Rozenberg, is more generally known for his luscious costume and set designs for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes as witness Scheherazade. When I discovered his magnificent portrait of Rachel Strong, the future Countess Henri de Buazhelen, on Wikimedia, I was entranced and knew I had to sell it on First Night Vintage. What I wouldn't do to be dressed thus - such elegance. If I had the means and the money, I would get gifted photographer James Hall, whose recreations of classics I have enjoyed on his blog, to recreate the portrait with me and my dog! I can dream.
Who was Rachel Strong? Apart from marrying Count Henri de Buazhelen, I have been able to find nothing of note about either of them, which is a shame. If anyone comes across a snippet of information, do let me know.
About Sarah Vernon
I'm a digital artist, actress, and writer who has always loved creating art of one form or another. A disabling condition (Limited Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis) means that I concentrate on digital art and I have surprised myself with the work I have created thus far. The more I learn about Photoshop and other art/design software, the more I am inspired to try unusual effects. One design often comes out of the 'out-takes' of another. Possibilities seem endless and enticing. And looking at and admiring the art of others is a joy and an inspiration. For me, the most important things in life are love and laughter. I hope that you will find something in my gallery to amuse and inspire you. You will find me on other sites under the name of...

I am related to this beautiful woman. She lived to be 101!

Rachel Strong grew up in Cleveland and married Henri de Boisgelin (b. 1897). They lived until at least the 1970s and had a chateau in the Bretagne region of France. I'm not sure when they passed, but they died without having children. The estate went to his relatives. I believe the chateau is now a hotel. Interestingly, he was a great nephew of Louis de Clercq (a famous french collector and photographer) and donated a great number of his items to the Louvre in 1967. The de Boisgelins were a warm and generous couple.
