Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King meet with New York City Mayor Robert Wagner at City Hall in 1964. Mayor Wagner later presented Dr. King with a medal honoring his efforts to nonviolently protest the racial segregation that existed in America until civil rights laws were passed later in the decade.
