Hi Doris, I was so excited to find your amazing photo this morning! I was enjoying this morning's heat when I saw a ruckus out of the corner of my eye and was stunned to see a red winged blackbird relentlessly diving towards a great blue heron that was wading in the shallow waters of the marsh under the shade of the red winged blackbird's nesting tree. The red wing would give him no peace at all so the heron had to find another place of refuge from the heat. I don't know if this is a common happening in the bird world but will say that I admired the tiny bird's boldness in light of the huge size difference. Wow!

Doris Potter replied:

Hi Deborah, I'm glad you liked my photo. It is quite something to see such a brave bird when it is so small in comparison, isn't it? I think baby red winged blackbirds should consider themselves very lucky to have such protective parents!

This is hilarious, Doris. I love it. It pays to keep an eye on nature for what it can offer. Thanks for liking one of my capture of the sparrows.

Doris Potter replied:

Thanks Ronald. You are so right about keeping an eye on nature. You never know what amazements are out there!

Sweet. Just a heron with a fish would be nice but . . . You have some really nice work.

Doris Potter replied:

Thanks so much Daniel. I appreciate your kind comment.

Wow, Doris, and how did you train this blackbird to rsvp to your every command? LOL I just love this unique image, as I have never seen anything quite like this before. Maybe it is in love, but doesn't realize its limitations! LOL This is a fantastic capture of something that only mother nature might comprehend. Thanks for sharing this unique shot with us, as it is one of my faves!

Doris Potter replied:

Another fun capture of nature at its best (or worst, if you are the heron ;-) )! I love the surprise the heron is obviuosly expressing! F&V

Doris Potter replied:

Or worst of all if you are the fish! Yes, the heron was surprised and annoyed I am sure!

OMG, Doris, this is such a fantastic capture! Lucky you to be near so much wildlife!

The person that finally received teddy pillow was thoroughly surprise and enjoying showing it to others. She loves the pillow. A couple of reminders - when ordering pillows 12x12 (unstuffed) they will reduce to smaller size when stuffed. Also, do you measure corner to corner diagonally or width to get the exact size. Another thing should let people know that when order that the product will not be in your hands for at least 2 weeks.

A Red-winged Blackbird harasses and attacks a Great Blue Heron as it tries to eat a fish. The Blackbird had nestlings near by and felt the Heron was a threat.

About Doris Potter

My passion is to express Nature's beauty through photography. I am self-taught and like things simple. Thus, photo manipulation is kept to a minimum. The intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings does not need enhancing; only revealing. All photos of wildlife have been taken in the wild and involve no staging. My goal is to bring out the character of an animal ... the essence of a leaf ... the spirit of all Nature. "The Sacred is clothed in fur and feathers and scales and skin - It flashes out from shining eyes in darkened woods - And speaks in bird songs and cicada serenades - It touches a place in me where wildness dwells - A long forgotten, hidden place that shivers in sudden resonance."
