Wonderful! L

Very interesting commentary about Taketakerau Patricia, a place I didn't know of, being from the Far North. I was priviledged just last week on the anniversary of my Mother's passing to have a 40 minute long korero with one of our local ruru when I climbed down a river bank after moving my horses mid morning and felt eyes upon me. There he sat perched on a mapou branch 3mtrs away and when I sat on a rock to talk to him after 5mins or so he flew in closer to 2mtrs above my head and perched on top of a ponga trunk fern frond where he remained for the next half hour just nodding his head this way and that way at me.

Thank you Dianne for sharing this wonderful story - what a special visit! I hear ruru more often than I see them - I have a number resident here and one in particular a couple of years back must have been living either in or very close to a large tree near my house. He sounded very close, and from the moment he started 'tuning up' I'd open my window and listen. There is something very special about the call of a morepork on the still night air! Thank you again - love your story!
