The Rookery is one Chicago's finest examples of Burnham and Root's late nineteenth century architecture. In 1905 Frank Lloyd Wright renovated the two-story atrium lobby to create the now famous Light Court, a favorite site for weddings. The building is listed on the National Registry as a National Historic Landmark. The symmetry of the building provides opportunity to make the right half of the drawing a cross section to show the Light Court and courtyard above as well as a basic section through the rest of the building.
Architecture and Engineering have been good to me during my fifty-year career. I studied architectural drafting and design at Brooklyn Technical High School, and as an undergraduate at Pratt Institute School of Architecture in Brooklyn, New York in the fifties. In the sixties and seventies I was chief draftsman for architects in Northern New Jersey and North Carolina, drafting by hand long before computers. By the early eighties I morphed into design engineering, still drafting by hand. In the nineties I apprehensivelythough willingly made the transition to CAD, although much of my preliminary work was still drawn by hand. Eventually, the hand drafting became dormant until a few years ago when a family member, who loves everything...
