Description
The Mediterranean landscape of France and Italy are very similar, the main difference is that French architecture use more medieval stone while the Italian buildings are mostly plaster. The Cote d' Azur streets are also often simple stone while the Romans used shaped and cut stone. All this makes great painting details that artists can get their teeth into when creating textures with brush or palette knives. In painting this scene I wanted to show the texture of the building materials and the hand laid stone walkway that someone long ago had spent considerable effort to create.
