I came across this old red barn on one of my drives out to the California coast. The vision that many people have of California is big cities, beaches, and movie stars. The fact is that yes we do have those things and the beaches draw plenty as that is where I was headed to on this particular day.
The other thing that California has is farms. Many of them. California grows roughly 20% of all the produce grown in the United States. Along with farms you get barns. Many of the barns seen nowdays in California are steel structures. The old wooden barn is out there but not as common as you might find in the mid-west.
I found this barn in Northern Marin County not far from the Sonoma/Marin County line. This really reminded me of my old home town in Northern Michigan with the rolling hills and the white picket fence I knew right away that I had to stop to create this image.
Marin County is a mostly rural county located just north of San Francisco. On this particular day I was headed out to Pt. Reyes National Seashore. If you ever find yourself in Marin County you might want to visit Muir Beach, Stinson Beach or Mt. Tamalpias. Mt Tamalpias has a fantastic view of both San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean.
North of Marin county is Sonoma county. Sonoma county is home to some fabulous vineyards and wineries.
