Description
The Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona is especially beautiful in the spring. Here clumps of blooming yellow brittlebush are scattered among the saguaro cacti on the rocky hillsides. The saguaro, Carnegiea gigantea, is a tree-like cactus native to this area. Older specimens may have side arms, but they only grow them after about 75 years and some never do; without arms, the cactus is called a spear. Brittlebush, Encelia farinose, has yellow, daisy-shaped flowers.
