Artist's Description
At the back of the Mission Concepcion in San Antonio sits a small alcove that contains these stone stairs, probably a back entrance to the chapel. On the day this photo was taken, the light was coming in from the top of the stairs, seeming to signify hope for something better for those willing to travel up them. I love the rough stone texture and sense of solid utility these stairs represent, plus the link back 300 or so years to the craftsmen that built them.
About JG Thompson
I have always been interested in art and especially photography. I also worked in the film industry for a time, so the technical side has influenced my work, especially the use of software to bring out more of the beauty hidden in the image than the eye sees at first. I find subjects for my images from something that attracts the eye. The color and vibrancy of birds or the color, form and composition of landscapes are examples. My interest in antique and other markets is driven by the way vendors create compositions that I capture with a camera that otherwise would only exist for a few hours. The nautical subjects are driven by memories of going to sea in the merchant marine while in my early twenties. Images Copyright James G....
