Image was crooked on the tshirt.
This is the fourth demonstration piece for "Making Waves on Chantry" 2007. The line of thunderstorms along the main trough of low pressure still remained to the west. I turned my easel around to keep the sun over my shoulder and back. This allowed me to paint the line of sailboats tied up to the private wharf on the south shore of the Saugeen River. The official forecast of "Showers and Thunderstorms" was stillmisguided. The frontal trough was really slow moving contrary to the numerical guidance.
I wanted to illustrate the painting of the subject matter by using the negative shapes. This applied to the sailboats, masts and trees. I also wanted to illustrate looking for the colours in the waters and trees. Water is not blue just like all trees are not green. It was fun! I finished this sketch on location around 5:30 pm... then headed for home. It was a great class - the participants where fun and bold painters!
Note that the Ojibway term for confluence of the waters...
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
