"Sea Slug - Creatures of the Deep Series"
A nudibranch, commonly referred to as a sea slug, crawls along the coral reef in my colorful undersea digital soft pastel painting. This little guy is a Chromodoris magnifica, and he is just one of the 3000 different species of nudibranchs that exist, occurring in a startling array of colors and shapes. And though I say "he" nudibranchs are actually hermaphrodites, each being both sexes, but need another nudibranch to mate. There's also a reason for the glorious color variety among them. As often occurs in nature, bright color means danger and these guys are no exception, as many sting, contain toxins or just taste really bad to predators. Still, it's hard not to love an adorable little sea slug. Second in my Creatures of the Deep series of four.
