Description
Sedimentary rock deposits formed in an ancient river delta. These are deltaic deposits, which were formed by the deposition of successive layers of sediment carried in river currents. As the river currents met the sea or a lake, the sedimentary particles were deposited at different rates, depending on how coarse they were. The coarsest particles were laid down immediately, but the finer particles were carried further towards the sea by the river currents as they diverged. Photographed at Lourinha, Portugal.
