Very cool Herald. Hmmm, i once had a self portrait that my wife also didn't like. I think mine is buried in a closet somewhere.

Thank you everybody. I guess I will get a frame for it after all.

As to those colors, I think Whistler's MOTHER was, too. And a lot of Netherland portraits. I think the right (shade) side really does ressemble some van Dyke, but I think you are asking too much for prints of it! Ha Ha!

Again, Hal, stunning self-portrait, you obviously loved the subject matter! (smile, wink). Very handsome man and wonderfully painted portrait.

once again I know my language will fall short trying to do more than give the highest of accolades. It is my honor to have met you on this site Hal and call you a friend. Seldom in my life have I met an artist of your skill. This an elegant and expressive self portrait worthy of any art history book. I see no meanness only gorgeous color, informed brush work and a fine portrayal of a sincere man questioning intelligently.

Whether or not it makes you look mean is subjective. Your wife knows you thoroughly and maybe she is protective of you. Regardless, obviously, the work is first-rate.
