Shepherd is a large charcoal image on paper (it is around 1m high) and it represents the one that goes out into the field to tend for the sheep, to take care of details, to bring results home. The figure is hurrying from the right to the left of the image (from the masculine real world, to the feminine world of dreams and intuition?) with dark clouds in the background heralding a storm. Moving quickly, holding the lamb tightly, bringing it to safety before the storm. In the drawing, we see the details of the shepherds boots and stick, drawn in distorted perspective so it seems our viewpoint is above and to the left of the figure. The figure itself is stoic - he doesn't look particularly happy about his task, he is just here to do it and getting on with it! (Somewhat how I felt about life at the time!) One feels the figure is caught somewhere in between 'avoiding the storm' (keeping safe) and looking after the lamb (fulfilling obligations), without much fun in between. Journeying for others - will he ever reach his own 'desired destination'? If there is one? However I like this image - for the contrast of the light and dark, for the power and simplicity of it, the drawing of the gnarly hands - it is one of my favourites!

This is not a towel, but a thin piece of felt printed on one side, the other side blank white.. The reproduction of the painting is fine, but the description as a towel is completely misleading since it cannot be used as a towel. I was totally disappointed in the quality of this item
