Description
Even the grandest palace has its back side. And this is especially true if the palace is hundreds of years old! This shuttered windows and peeling paint were seen on one of the back patios at Topkapi palace in Istanbul Turkey. After viewing all the sumptuous royal rooms, you wander out onto a patio where it is likely the Sultan never hung out! Topkapi is the largest and oldest palace in the world to survive to this day. It was the main residence of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years (1465-1856) of their 624-year reign. In 2924 it was turned into a museum.
