Description
This is an original photograph of an old shuttered window located in an old, two-story fort of western frontier times. The fort is located in the Old Jail Museum Complex located in the tiny, little town of Palo Pinto, Texas. This little town also serves as the County Seat of Palo Pinto County and is just a few miles west of the town of Mineral Wells, Texas.
The complex is much more than an old jail museum, it houses the old, two-story fort, a carriage house with restored buggy, four beautifully restored log cabins, and so many more artifacts depicting life on the rugged, western frontier. This is an area where Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving began driving cattle to Colorado and so began a story that anyone interested in Texas history is happy to share. This is also the area where the posse that eventually captured Chief Peta Nocona, the father of the great Comanche war chief, Quannah Parker was formed. They captured Chief Nocona and brought his wife Cynthia Ann back to her family near the present town of Groesbeck, Texas. She had been captured by the Comanches as a child and eventually married Peta Nocona and became the mother of one of the most feared warriors to ever roam west Texas and southern Oklahoma....Quannah Parker.
