A color photograph of a snowy owl nestled on a reed-covered sand dune, staring straight at the camera, with the sun setting behind it. I took this picture on Plum Island at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. It was at the end of a 6 hour hike up and down the peninsula with my 5 year old son, on an unusually warm January day that saw a dozen other folks looking for owls. Yet me, my son, and a visiting photographer had this gorgeous owl all to ourselves for about 20 minutes before it flew off just as 4 other shooters came up the boardwalk. This photo will always remind me of that special day with my boy.
