After a frustrating visit to a lake on the outskirts of my hometown, I made a stop to go investigate a seemingly abandoned house I saw in the distance.
I left the main road and parked next to a small field where a farmer was working. I asked her if the house we could see further up the hill was actually abandoned and what was its story. Many years ago it belonged to a doctor and at that time there was a vineyard and a wine press. In fact, the remains of the winepress and wine cellar still exist. The house was later inherited by the doctor's son, whom, little interested in keeping alive the production of wine, rented the home to a large number of tenants who lived there over the years. During this period, the property was very badly treated and finally resulted in total abandonment.
As you would expect, I decided to enter. The house was not vandalized, but it was empty without any furniture or other signs of human presence. As if the past had not existed, or had fallen into oblivion. There was nothing in there... Unless... And that's how I came up with the idea for this photograph.
