Poking around on a jetty in the dark is a eerie feeling! The jetty and waters of the gulf receiving faint light from the city behind me. But this was one of the last places that I would have a opportunity to take a photo like this! I had to find a dark place that my camera could gather enough light from the milky way in a long exposure. I knew that looking out over the Gulf of Mexico would do the trick. With just a narrow window to work with after sun down, I was able to get this shot of the galactic core as it was going down in the southwest. The last chance to get this shot on a moonless night this year (November 2017)!!!!!! It will not be visible again until around of March 2018!
