Description
A beautiful Orange Sulphur Butterfly rests for a moment atop a pink Zinnia flower in my Ohio garden on a warm September afternoon. This ventral view shows off the lovely lemon-yellow of the wings...while the dorsal side has bright orange and black patterns. (Dorsal refers to the side of the butterfly wings you see when they are being held in the open position.) I love the fact that butterflies are so different depending on which view of them you see. Looking at this, you would think it would be called a "Lemon'Yellow Sulphur," but nature has a surprise for you! These butterflies rarely rest with their wings held open. the only time I have been able to capture the orange is when they are in flight. I also love those green eyes!!
If you want to attract butterflies to your garden, don't forget to plant a few zinnias. They are beautiful little butterfly magnets.....and don't forget the Milkweed plants for Monarchs!
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!

Thank you so much, Christy.....Sulphurs are small and so common that I think a lot of people don't pay any attention to them . . . but they should! :)
