As I look outside my window to watch the wind howling on a gray winter day, I take comfort in remembering a peaceful scene I encountered on a perfect summer evening while riding my bicycle on one of the many bike trails where I live in Colorado. I was taken with the way the mountains, trees, field and the ancient building were aglow in the fading daylight. Each season has it's rewards.....winter has it's beauty, too, but in the midst of the cold it's soothing to know that warmer days will come again.
Anne Gifford is an award winning artist and the eight time poster artist for Colorado's Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day Race, one of the largest road races in the United States. She began her career as a silkscreen artist. After 25 years of printmaking, Anne now works with watercolor, building successive layers of color to create her vibrant, rich, and detailed paintings. She has lived in Colorado since 1976 and finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Her paintings, like a pictorial journal, have chronicled her journey thus far. I believe this is the old Shamrock school house where my Grandfather, Guy Hill, attended school in the late 1880's. His teacher was Mrs. Viele which was unusual since married women weren't allowed to teach back then. Grandpa dearly loved her and carried her picture with him as he moved to different states, returning to Colorado in 1934. When he returned, he went to the home of Charles Dehn, a fellow student at this school. It's amazing that it's still standing. Love this Annie, but then, I love everything that you do!
