Here is another piece I did in 1992 in class with the students at Stivers School for the arts. This particular day as I painted I made up a story about going to a Sunday BBQ and how much fun it was to eat the good food and how cute I would look in my party dress, and how much fun I would have eating and romping in my dress. It really is a very fun and funny time to make up stories and imagery about experience you want to have while making fun paintings. It's fun to transfer the vibrancy of the experience into the peiece with color and shape in a way that no one knows what your intention is, yet it stands bold for your knowing. It's like Jesus encouraging people to believe in themselves, but to tell no one. It's funny that even though in my play story I was haveing fun at a Sunday BBQ, there are elements of the Italian ribbon hard candies my Grandmother had for us during the Christams holidays. My Grandmother had a wonderful way of quietly teaching us to make the best of life. I love the little icons that represent my Grandmother's wisdom and love that find their way into my work. In this case, into the skirt of a party dress. My grandmother is a piece of delicious candy! Though we can never stop being creative, we are on auto pilot, it is great fun to make art on purpose from a free flowing feeling place of creativity. I miss teaching young folks. I love sitting and learning from them while they learn from me, while we learn about ourselves. There is a great element of unrestrained creativity that sometimes is not present with adults.
