Description
Built of granite, the stone arch of the water fountain on the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, provides a stunning frame for a beautiful sunrise. The structure was built in 1929 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the local chapter of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
In the 1800's, many areas in the U.S. had very poor quality drinking water, and drinking alcohol was considered a healthier alternative. In an effort to reduce alcohol consumption, the Temperance Union built fountains across the US in an effort to make drinking water easily accessible.
