Description
While hiking in a remote canyon in Utah, I was thrilled to spot an entire herd of Bighorn Sheep in the distance on the trail before me. Expecting them to bolt at any moment, I proceeded as soundlessly as possible to try to get a better look. To my amazement, they didn't run, but instead scrutinized me as I approached, getting more astounding photos with each step. I was only about ten feet away when this little guy posed for me. What a treat on the trail!

So lovely. The silky Bighorn Sheep, the rocks in the foreground, the scrub brush and the soft foliage in the background.

Watercolor perfection, Anne! So beautifully done and with such a wonderful story! Your art is amazing!!

Don Nelson
Wonderful colors and textures Anne! Perfect pose. Browsed your other work and saw many I really liked. You have a great touch for rich color harmony and take the effort to develop satisfying tonal contrast!

What an amazing thing to happen--to be able to get such close-up reference photos. We only have a few Bighorns left in Texas, and then only in remote areas West Texas. The chance of seeing one in the wild is almost nil here. Your watercolor rendition is gorgeous! l/f
Anne Gifford replied:
Thank you Marsha. I was amazed that I saw several of them together in Utah and was able to get the photos to work from.

There are very few of these left in Texas, and efforts to re-establish them have met with limited success. How magnificent this one looks! l/f

I think both you and this beautiful creature were surprised to see each other. You captured the moment beautifully in this painting! L
