This piece is an expression of embracing my identity with my Taino indigenous culture of Puerto Rico. The girl holds the Taino symbol of the “Coqui” on her cheek, the native singing frog.
The Original work is 24" x 36" painted in Acrylic on canvas and Alcohol Ink, sealed in a layer of UV protectant Resin.
The lustrous metallic gold streaks render an impressionistic flow of one of many picturesque waterfalls in the Island of Puerto Rico.
In the background are human figures behind the waterfall sheers.
Artist Statement: I am a Mixed Media Artist. I continuously explore human resiliency and what makes us drive forward. Sustainability of my sculpture is really important to me so I create the pieces using environmentally friendly textile hardener which serves as a universal medium that when cured becomes hard and waterproof.
