Description
Tallahassee Canopy Road is a digital photograph by Carla Parris.
Live Oak Plantation Road is one of Tallahassee, Florida's beautiful canopy roads. The arching boughs of majestic live oak trees create a verdant canopy for those driving, or walking, this beautiful road.
This photo was taken in late February, 2013, after an unusually rainy period, when the resurrection fern on tree limbs was particularly thick and lush, because of the moisture, and when the gracious towering live oaks were full of new spring green and yellowish green growth.
This scene is enhanced by the beautiful sunlight filtering through the trees, casting fanciful shadows on the pavement below.
Tallahassee, in Leon County, in the panhandle or big bend of the state, is the capital of Florida. It is also the home of several universities, including Florida State University (home of the Seminoles); Florida A & M (home of the Rattlers); and Tallahassee Community College.
In many ways, Northwest Florida is more akin to Georgia than to central or south Florida (think Disney World and Miami, respectively) with plantations, red clay, live oaks, dogwoods, and azaleas. And Northwest Florida actually has seasons! There can be beautiful color in the fall, and the region is in her glory in the spring.
Nothing says "The South" to me more than a scene such as this, with beautiful live oak trees and flowing tendrils of Spanish moss.
