This house has always intrigued me whenever I visit the Eugene Rose Gardens, it's right next to the park. I love the architecture and the sense of mystery behind the bushes which hide it. So one day I parked in the lot, set up my easel, and painted it.
When I paint I get lost and absorbed, time is weightless and my mind is engaged in the now. I work freely and intuitively in the moment, leaving behind angst and just enjoying the creative process. There's something about the brush strokes on canvas that's therapeutic to me. I love color the way some people love chocolate. While painting en plein air, I work quickly to capture a freshness, many times alla prima (in one sitting). I like acrylics because of their versatility, practicality and vividness--but have worked in other mediums as well; oil, pastel, and pen and ink. Painting makes me feel alive.
