The Breakup of Pangaea by Barbara Griffin. This is the vein structure in a large beach rock that I photographed while beachcombing. After digitally changing the colors of the rock image to blue, gold and white, I thought the result resembled what Earth might have looked like during the breakup of the landmass called Pangaea during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras between 200 and 300 million years ago.
According to Wegener's Theory, earth was once a super-continent that separated into the land masses that we know today. This occurred because of tectonic plates within earth that are always moving and shifting. Identical species and fossils have been found in North Africa and North America that prove this theory.
Doesn't the left-hand side of this photo look like it could be the continent of Africa?
