Description
The Bridge of Lions, Saint Augustine, Florida.
The original bridge (made of wood) was constructed in 1895.
"There to cut the ribbon (in a wheelchair and with two young great-granddaughters at her side) was 92-year-old Isabella Heard. As a child of ten, she had helped to clip the ribbon on the bridge when it first opened in 1927, and symbolically tied the ribbon in 2006 when the bridge was closed for its $82 million overhaul. She paused to talk with 98-year-old Lois Todd Bennett, who had been on the prize-winning “Moultrie for Better Poultry” float in the 1927 parade that went over the bridge after Heard cut the ribbon the first time around"
