Steel has always fascinated me. It feels like the rock of the earth, like the molten fires of the core and the coldness of machines. It is also very hard, and strikes a permanent chord in the mind. I also like glass. It is like stone and also like water. It implies clarity and resolve. It can seem like vision, like purity and transcendence. I wanted materials that spoke of these ideas to explore mine. The hard, square edges of these works imply a ridged structure and order. The glass is the ethereal/organic/feminine aspect represented from a mechanical perspective. I wanted a crisp, clean, precise implication. The layers are just that, layers. They represent viewpoints or circumstances or shifts or time changes or aspects. They combine to create what I see as simply another layer. These sculptures are thoughts made physical. Like mechanical hearts to a mechanical life, I like to see these works as representing the magic of the machine.
