Description
1848 Greek Revival style one and a half story home known as the McWilliams-Smith-Rice House in downtown Prattville, Alabama.
Mr. McWilliams was a merchant and his descendants followed in his footsteps in the area retail business into the fifth generation. Amos Smith, foreman for Daniel Pratt's gin shop, bought the house from McWilliams in 1856. His son, George, purchased the house from his father in 1858. In the 1940s, the house was restored by John Rice and his wife, Otis, a descendant of George Smith.
Charles Rice and Mary Wood Rice Waite donated in 1995 to the city of Prattville for a museum, operated by the Autauga County Heritage Association. The Prattaugan Museum is filled with artifacts pertaining to Autauga County - a county that is one year older than the state of Alabama.
