This beginning reader story book is a comical tale by Tom Tittle using words beginning with the letter "H" about a queen's outrageous hats and how her embarrassed husband, the king, hides them from her. The underlying theme of the story is that in any good relationship there should be compromise. The queen gives up her outrageous hats for ordinary ones and the king wears matching hats. The story is cleverly written for children aged 5 to 8.
I had complete freedom to interpret the story as I saw it and, since the queen had the same name as my husband's aunt Hermoine, I based the appearance of the character on her. It was a riot to come up with illustrations to suit Mr. Tittle's marvelous story of sabotage and intrigue in the royal hat world. In this illustration, the king decrees that no one will be allowed to wear high hats which make him appear short. The queen is clearly upset at this restriction on her wardrobe and begins to devise a plan to get the king to change his mind...
