Description
A Lake Trout on another slab of black walnut. I like this picture. I carefully gessoed and sealed the area that would be painted after I completed the sketch. This would allow the colours to pop on the grain of the thick slab of wood. Good memories.
The large black walnut tree was on the front yard of my friend Jack Brydon on Church Street in Schomberg. Jack and I were great friends and did a lot of wood working together. I carved several paddles in his shop while listening to Jack tell stories. Anyway Jack cut the black walnut stem into slabs. We sanded those slabs which I then sealed.

In my early years I focussed on photographic realism in oils. It was a great way to learn. I would spend hours on a square inch of canvas trying to make it perfect. Perfection can be overrated :>) Now a square inch might be a few seconds of plein air frenzy. How much fun is that? Lots! It took me more than fifty years to get there. Life is good.
