Description
The Old Stone Church in West Boylston, Massachusetts, sits on the banks of the Wachusett Reservoir. It was originally constructed in 1832, and was destroyed by fire in 1890. The current building was constructed in 1892. The last service was held in 1902, as the Metropolitan Water Board purchased the church for the construction of the reservoir. Much of the town was flooded and 300 homes were lost to the reservoir.
On this morning, I made my first visit to this spot. The church's stoic stance on the banks, draped with an American flag, basking in the morning sun, and reflected in the waters of the reservoir, struck a chord with me.
