These paintings start with a large piece of paper that is sectioned off. When I started using gouache, I would paint the most interesting part of the photograph first and leave the rest for later. Well, later never came and the painting stayed incomplete. Instead of working that way, I decided to section off the photograph and paint square by square. Finishing a square was like finishing a painting. So, when I tired, I would stop and have the other squares left to finish. Each square may be off a little, but somehow it worked. I enjoy painting this way! Thanks so much for your comment.

I was taken with your style. And am so curious about the small squares technique. Are those actually separate peices of paper, set like a mosaic, or do you create small separate paintings on the larger paper. I think it is creative and unusual either way. You have a gift.
