Description
A tall and sturdy wooden staircase, the slightest bit rickety and weather-beaten, dusted with the ever-present blowing golden sands, rises from the warmth of Corolla's expansive Outer Banks beaches to seemingly take us right up to heaven. But how can that be, because being at the beach IS being in heaven, isn't it?
Back when I made my first visit to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a lot of years ago, the beach-front home we stayed at looked right out onto the sands and to the curling, glorious ocean itself. Since that time ... well, since the beginnings of time, really ... many ferocious storms have battered the thin finger of land that separates the mainland from the Atlantic.
In order to preserve the precious real estate along that glorious, beautiful strip of terra firma, the home-owners (and who's kidding who - the local governments, too, probably) have constructed tall, sturdy dunes. The dunes are mountains of sand and probably other materials meant to contain the rising ocean waters when the scary times come. They have been planted with lots of natural vegetation whose root systems help to stabilize the dunes themselves. Though the dunes restrict the magic of the views from the sea-side homes somewhat, they have a beauty all their own ... even the parts that mankind has added to make the trips back and forth easier ... on us humans, and on the dunes themselves.
Image painted by hand, digitally, and very loosely based on one of my own photos using Corel Painter 2019, a Wacom tablet, the art pen and many beautiful digital brushes, including some of the popular Bob Ross and Constable Clouds brushes.
This image was NOT created using AI - Artificial Intelligence programs.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... it will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
