About Jim Thompson

This site promotes the photographic art of Jim Thompson. Jim likes to photograph birds (especially hummingbirds), wildlife, butterflies, trains, landscapes, flowers, and the Milky Way. But his portfolio also contains many other topics. His life in photography officially began when he was in the United States Navy in 1966. His ship, the Kitty Hawk Class aircraft carrier USS Constellation, anchored in Hong Kong Harbor for a few days of R&R. While there Jim purchased his first 35mm camera, an Asahi Pentax 35mm along with a couple of lenses and lots of film so he could photograph the Chinese culture including architecture, people and special places.
