Description

A blockish, concrete tenement building sitting in water looms against an ominous, dark landscape, The sky represents anguish and despair; and the waters, a metaphor for the Flood that brings destruction, poverty, loss, and death! More specifically, it is a building meant for human habitation; especially one that is rented to tenants; and is often rundown, providing low-rental apartments, whose facilities and maintenance barely meet minimum standards!! More important, it is these physical 'attributes' that feeds our perceptions ('Social Darwinism') about the people who live in them; as well as their perceptions of themselves, and each other. It is the deliberate system of Capitalism that these physical structures exist: to keep their inhabitants trapped in a vicious cycle of ethnic and racial oppression and poverty--a slow death--for the benefit of the privileged few at the top of the 'food chain'.
