I say now that I don�t know how to reveal the Emes (truth) in art. Thus if I paint (try to paint�as I don�t, as I say, know how) this thought (that I don�t know how to reveal the emes in art) behold I have painted the emes, I have found the emes. In this way I can proceed through the painting. I avoid sheker. That is, I follow, or try to follow, my thoughts as I proceed. I try to maintain to the greatest possible extent a handle on thoughts the underlie the lines and colors that are being reveled in the work. To avoid fooling myself; this is enough of a challenge for a human being. Yet if one doesn't have some handle on this, in my opinion, he shouldn't take art-making too seriously.
