Super happy how print came out, but looks a little less vibrant even after just a cool water quick wash. Still nice looking, but would have preferred the vibrancy to have remained.

Artist's Description

The only way I know how to differentiate this caterpillar from the Tobacco Hornworm is by the color of their "horn". If black, it is the Tomato variety; if red, it is the Tobacco variety. This tiny little caterpillar is 1/2" long and I'm betting on it being the Tomato Hornworm. Cute little larva:>) The horn could turn color, however, as it progresses through various instars.

They are considered pests of the plants in the nightshade family or Petunias, too. We do pick them off our tomato plants and try to find something wild for them to chow down on, like nightshade. More often than not we see the eggs of a Braconidae wasp on the more grown up caterpillars, so many do not survive to adulthood in our area.

Here is a bit of a write up on them:

About Carol Senske

Carol Senske

I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....
