The Ohiopyle Low Bridge stands out as one of the most heavily used spans on the Great Allegheny Passage taking people and bikes from the Visitor Center on the south side to the Ferncliff Peninsula on the north. A short distance further north is the Ohiopyle High Bridge.
�The framework and deck sit however sit on concrete piers which once held a bridge used by the WMdRwy. �When the WMdRwy was abandoned in 1975 the most southerly span of was removed to expedite truck traffic on Rt 381 into Ohiopyle. Then in 1986 as popularity of the trail increased a need for a direct connection was realized. �There were several plans including using an existing bridge�with some modifications to raise the deck so that it wouldn't restrict the height of truck traffic into town. The final decision was to build a new bridge. �
