Mission Point is located on the Saint Mary's River south of Sault Saint Marie. It is a popular spot for boat watching as boats approach and leave the Soo Locks. There is a small restaurant at the north end and the Sugar Island Ferry leaves from there too. The dock on the other side of the river is visible at the left side of the picture.
The Edwin H. Gott is the 8th of 13 1,000 foot vessels plying the Great Lakes. She was launched on July 19th, 1978. When she entered layup at the end of the 1995 shipping season she received a new self unloading boom which allowed her to service more ports than the restrictive boom she had previously.
She has a length of 1,004 feet and a beam of 105 feet. When fully loaded she can transport 74,100 tons of cargo.
I developed an interest in photography at a young age, often following my father around while he took pictures. From that I learned the basics and purchased my first camera while still in high school. I learned more through reading and trial and error. My first formal training came in 2013 when I took a basic photography class at a community college. During high school I became fascinated with the freighters that sailed on the lakes. The boats intrigued me and for a time I wanted to work on them. My career took me down a different path, but I never lost my interest in the boats.
