The USS Inaugural was a minesweeper in WWII and spent some time patrolling Pearl Harbor. The boat was decommissioned and sent to St. Louis to become a tourist attraction. During the flood of '93 the ship was sent downstream from the St. Louis riverfront near the Arch about a mile south where the boat sunk. The ship was submerged for years, but the drought of 2012 brought low river levels on the Mississippi River and the ship became accessible by land.
My current passion is an alternative photographic process called Polaroid transfers. Each transfer is hand-made by the photographer using specific materials and equipment to achieve a desired effect. A transparency is projected on to professional Polaroid print film and as development begins, the print and chemicals are prematurely separated. The image is transferred on to dampened watercolor paper for a unique image which has a dated, artistic photo-painting appearance. Exposure, pressure, time, paper and other variables make each print an original mono-print. Prints for sale in my Etsy shop too: http://www.etsy.com/shop/jalinde I am fascinated by the unpredictability of Polaroid transfers and I love the freedom of...

Thanks for all of your comments, I appreciate the support. The Mississippi river water level just dropped again. Those of you who live in St. Louis and can brave the cold might consider viewing this old ship before it submerges again.

My father served on the PCE 899, Lamar, in Guam and while this is a beautiful picture, it is painful for those who remember the small ships and the sailors who served on them. A sad end for a gallant little craft.
