Description
What a glorious day to drive up the entire length of Loch Ness! My destination was Inverness, but I had to stop in for a bit at Urquhart Castle. It wasn't very crowded and I had most of the grounds to myself. It was so amazing being there among the ruins of the ancient castle. But my favorite site were the crepuscular rays that came shining out from behind the clouds. Crepuscular rays are are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from the point in the sky where the Sun is located. Shining through openings in clouds or between other objects such as mountains, these columns of sunlit scattering particles are separated by darker shadowed volumes. Despite seeming to converge toward the light source, the rays are essentially parallel shafts of sunlit and shadowed particles. Their apparent convergence is a visual illusion from linear perspective. This illusion is the same as railway lines' or long hallways' appearing to converge at a distant vanishing point. To me, in less scientific terms, are God's Rays, coming down to bless the Earth and all of His creatures great and small.
