Description
Whale shark (Rhincodon typus) with a large number of remoras (family Echeneidae) and a scuba diver. Whale sharks are filter-feeding carpet sharks and are the largest living non-mammalian vertebrates. Remoras are fish that have a symbiotic relationship with many large sea animals. They attach to their host by a sucker and clean the host's skin of parasites and eat left-over scraps, whilst the host in turn provides protection for the remora. Photographed off West Papua, Indonesia.
