Surprised? Not if you know much about Wyoming history or Wyoming now, for that matter. Women do most of the same hard physical labor as men, as Dawn depicts in this historical vignette from her River Mural. A woman tie hack is working on the huge pile of cut ties, getting ready to send them downstream to the railroad many miles away.
I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
