Description
Xanthelasma and rhinoscleroma. Historical medical illustration showing xanthelasma (Figs. 1-4) and rhinoscleroma (Fig. 5). In xanthelasma, fatty deposits of yellowish cholesterol collect beneath the skin, and are a symptom of a high blood cholesterol. Rhinoscleroma is caused by infection with the bacterium Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis, which causes deformity and tissue destruction in the nasal area. From Atlas of Venereal and Skin Diseases by Prince Albert Morrow, published in 1889.
