Z is for Zebra Finch by Joan Stratton - Hand drawn digital artwork of a Zebra Finch. These detailed drawings take me many long days of drawing to complete.
Zebra Finch (Taeniopygia guttate Estrildidae) - Because they often live in harsh, arid and semi-arid habitats, Zebra Finches make the most of infrequent wet periods when they occur. It takes only a small quantity of rainfall to send these birds into a breeding frenzy, rapidly building nests and raising broods of young in quick succession. The young birds develop quickly, fledging about two weeks after hatching. The young finches are independent when they are 35 days old, and they soon begin breeding, contributing to the boom-and-bust cycle of inland Australia (from birdlife.org.au)

In the mid '80s, as a side-line to my permanent employment, I designed and prepared artwork for record covers (Albums, Eps), promotional ads and flyers for rock bands that marketed their music independently. I see myself as a mixed media artist, I love every medium and they all...
